Notes:Explanation of Inscriptions on the New Treble:
Omnia Fiant ad Gloriam Dei:
Latin for :Let all be done to the glory of God.
(The Treble Bell is always the first bell to ring out, so as the bells
start pealing it symbolically sends out the message of it its inscription)
The symbols are Greek Letters pronounced Chi-Rho,
and spell out the first two letters of the name of Christ in Greek. The Chi-Rho
sign is a very ancient Christian symbol, and was engraved on the late 3rd cent Water-Newton
Treasure (the oldest Mass silver vessels found anywhere in the world, which was
probably given to the Church by the inhabitants who dwelt in the Roman
Praetorium at Castor ).
The symbols are the first and last Greek letters in the Greek alphabet pronounced Alpha and Omega. In the last book of the New Testament (The Revelation to St John ) Christ is described as the Alpha and Omega the beginning and the end.
So the inscription reads: Christ-2000 Year of our Lord(AD)-the Beginning and the End
Untouched I am a silent
thing, but strike me and I sweetly sing.
